Founded in 2016 by Fraterne, Irebe is inspired by the pioneering spirit of his grandmother, who revolutionized the agaseke basket in 1942 and established Rwanda’s first crafts cooperative in 1964.
Her vision was simple yet powerful to use the art of basket weaving as a means of empowerment for women in rural Rwanda. Today, Irebe carries forward this dream, championing the incredible talent of over 1,489 weavers across 22 cooperatives.

We are dedicated to preserving the soul of Rwandan tradition weaving techinics while blending it with modern aesthetics. With over 10,000 unique designs sold in Kigali and beyond, we have gained international acclaim. But more than that, we have touched the lives of more than 1075 weaver families across Rwanda.

Every basket we create tells a story of culture, craftsmanship, and community. We are passionate about our eco-friendly practices and unwavering commitment to fair trade, ensuring that every piece not only enhances a space but also uplifts a life.

To be the leading in traditional basket weaving whilst promoting community development and preserving the environment.
We uplift Weavers through fair trade and support for women
co-operatives, creating sustainable and stylish home decor that
positively impacts our communities.
At Irebe Baskets, these essential values are deeply
ingrained in our organisational culture
